Well, 6 weeks have elapsed since picking up my 2002 300M Special
and my 1999 300M, which I hated to part with, is slowly fading
in my memory. I would still be driving it today except for Chryslers
"lease end" residual of $18,000. When I called for financing
on it the bank said the loan value was only $16,000 so Ii decided
to return it with only 35,000 miles and in excellent condition.
My dealer consented to try and track it through the auction, buy
it, and then re-sell it to me at $500.00 over his purchase price.
Trouble is, they have around 10,000 cars at this auction and no
way of telling when a specific vehicle will go through.
When he did call me it was to let me know he'd just received the
new 300M Special and since I'd seen photo's I was very interested
in how Chrysler had tweaked this model. It was love at first sight
just like it was back in 99. I would have preferred the dark slate
interior but the two tone leather is beginning to grow on me.
Thats another gripe I have with Chrysler, my '99 paint was the
slate pearl coat which I thought was an outstanding color. Can't
figure out why they deleted after 2000.
Anyway, the black looks great and it's also given me a 2nd career,
keeping it clean! At this point I'm liking just about everything
about the car and the performance for a 3,600lb luxo-cruiser is
great. I don't know why they even published the info about the
5 extra HP. Obviously not enough to make a difference and I'm
sure it was offset by the larger wheels and tires, the dual exhausts,
and the ground effects packaging. I like the new "read outs"
in the roof console and especially the tire pressure option. Nice
feature! I haven't touched the headlight switch since i got it
and also like that add on. The 1 inch lowering along with the
dual pipes, 18 inch alloys, and the ground effects, really set
this model off!!
Also nice to see that for we "clean machine" fanatics,
they finally cured the "dripping" side view mirror problem.
Speaking of cleaning, I wish that they would have factory installed
disc brake "dust covers". You can buy them retail for
about $59.00 (4) but Ii'm sure it would have been merely a few
extra bucks for Chrysler. I can clean them, drive a day, and they're
ready to be washed again!! Called the dust cover people but they
haven't caught up to this model year yet.
So, after 2,700 miles i'm falling in love all over again!! The
only mods I've made are: a GREAT magnetic bra, black and gray
sisal floor mats, optical grade flexible plastic covers for the
headlights, fogs, and turning lamps, hard wired car phone, high
grade chrome license plate frame, bluish/white Euro bulb for the
rear plate.
I'm still thinking about a light window tint and maybe custom
sheepskin covers for the front. Decided to buy this one rather
than lease so it makes the upgrades a little more logical and
fun. Hope everyone else is having good luck and enjoying theirs
also.
