I only drive like maybe 1500 miles a year. I have 86k miles on my M . I was driving along and felt a slight jolt and the engine warning light came on. At one point it went into limp mode. I turned the car off, restarted and started driving again. It then shifted through all the gears properly. I checked the code via dashboard....P0700. I had my mechanic check the underlying code and it read P1776..something like low solenoid pressure in reverse. After driving a bit, it went into limp mode again. I restarted the car and then it shifted properly.

Would a tranny fluid and filter change help? It was last changed about 10 years and 30k miles ago at 56k miles. The fluid level looks ok and color is pink and smells fine. Any other idea to solve this issue? Would a tcm/pcm reset help? Would a faulty input speed sensor cause this? Does a bad speed sensor set a code?

Doesn’t matter how much or how little you drive. Solenoid pack at the very least. Probably need a valve body as well to be sure you are not going back in there again.

That is the very common solenoid pack failure. Repair involves a minimum of replacing the solenoid pack, as well as the fluid since that comes out anyway. Replace the filter while doing so.

Valve body seems to be hit and miss. Some experience a need to do it, our own black Special did not require it when we did the pack a few years ago. My car never set the 1776 code, however I had the pack replaced and valve body inspected and cleaned while the transaxle was being rebuilt, for piece of mind.

Were I to experience this code now, I would do the solenoid pack, valve body, fresh fluid and filter, and PCM relearn all at once. Better safe than sorry.

So has anyone actually had the 1776 code like I am getting? ... If I just do the solenoid pack, where is the best place to buy? Is this one ok on ebay: ... c60d75aa74

Will any brand filter and gasket be ok?

Approx how many hour would this take for an able bodied mechanic to do this?

How does one go about doing a pcm relearn?

Right out of the KB "book time 2.5 Hours.
Sonax sells reman valve bodies with solenoids for a reasonable price.

I have a post about doing my valve body and solenoid pack. I also did the relearn. Messy job, but not too difficult. The solenoid pack that was originally sent out was defective. It took me about 40 minutes to pull it and install it the second time. It helped that I added a drain plug in the pan. I also used a Wix filter with Chrysler ATF+4 and Chrysler RTV to seal the pan.

Twice on the black special, once on the show car.

Black special popped the code and I swapped in just the solenoid pack, fluid and filter. The same code came back a week later.
Went back in a second time and swapped in a valve body and a different solenoid pack as well as new fluid and a filter.
Problem solved, never popped back up.

After what I had happen to the black car i didn't screw around and just replaced the valve body, solenoid pack, fluid and filter on the show car. Problem solved, never came back.

I also bought a new solenoid pack screen. The solenoid pack didn't have one included. I wanted to make sure everything was new. You can typically rise them and reuse though.

1776 was the code in my wife's Pro Am.

Did the solenoid pack and the valve body and haven't had any problems since.

Seems good. I went with a company called SONAX when I got mine but the link you provided should work just fine.

tranny code P1776
Just wondering if there is anyone in the club from eastern MA that would be interested in tackling the replacement of the valve body/solenoid pack for a fair compensation? I would prefer to have a member who is familiar with this job than to trust a tranny shop to be honest and capable . I can have it towed to you. I have a source for the parts required.
